Florida golf in pictures: SouthWood Golf Club in Tallahassee

SouthWood Golf Club sits on the eastern fringes of Tallahassee, amid the moderate hills that mark this part of Florida. Like other golf courses in and around the Sunshine State capital, Southwood has the gentle roll and flow of the local terrain, but aesthetically it's a step above the Tallahassee norm.

The way designers Fred Couples and Gene Bates mixed the red-sand bunkers with the hills and mounding could have come straight of an artist's canvas. Throw in all the beautiful old oak trees and you have a course so pretty you want to reach out and give it a smack on the lips.

But hold that pucker, sailor: SouthWood has some bite. It's 7,172 yards from the back tees, with a medium-difficult slope rating of 133. Bates gives you a little enticement with the driver on many of the par-4s, but enticement can turn into disaster if you're not careful.
