Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Florida
Eagle Creek Golf Club, set in the master-planned Orlando community of the same name, is an odd combination of American and British golf architecture that turned out extremely well. The co-designers, Floridian Ron Garl and Englishman Howard Swan, set out to mix course elements from both sides of the Atlantic, such as wide American fairways and European bunkering.
Lest you be confused by this strange merger, the designers make it easy on you. The course plays 7,198 yards from the back tees with wide landing areas and a leisurely slope rating of 128. Still, with a very open interior, the course is prey to the winds that can sweep across this part of the Sunshine State. Five par 5s make this the only par-73 track in central Florida golf, but par 3s like the heavily bunkered fifth and No. 8, with its narrow, undulating green, are Eagle Creek's biggest challenges.
