FEATURE STORY
Sarasota a growing golf hot spot in Florida
From Staff Reports
Sarasota, Florida will probably never be known as a great golf town, Joel Zuckermand writes in this story.
Blame the great beaches. The quality of Sarasota's sand is nothing short of legendary, Zuckerman writes. Take Crescent Beach on Siesta Key, one of the most popular sunning spots in all of Florida and, according to aficionados, one of the best beaches in the world.

But while this city of 50,000 may be best known for its stunning seaside, the golf can be spectacular, as well. Zuckerman cites the Arthur Hills-designed Stoneybrook golf course, which will keep a golfer on his or her toes with a dizzying array of risk-reward opportunities.
Just north of town is Bobcat Trail, which will give bring you a solid variety of par 4s and an interesting Bob Tway design easily navigable with GPS-equipped carts.
Bordering the Manatee River, Waterlefe Golf and River Club in Bradenton is one of the area's most scenic tracks, with a Ted McAnlis design that culminates in a spectacular island green.
Along with beaches and golf, Sarasota offers shopping, great restaurants and other tourist delights into play, making it a great choice for golfers on the go.
