The Lakes in Waycross

From Staff Reports
In this article about The Lakes golf course on Waycross, Ga., National Golf Editor Tim McDonald writes that a course surrounded by a swamp is strange to see, but impressive to play.
With the Okefenokee Swamp, the largest such swamp in the U.S., leading your way to The Lakes, you'll have marshes, thick vegetation, pine forests and wildlife to guide you to the course. Once on the course, however, all the swamp elements still exist, but in easy-to-take form, as the course is a few miles from the swamp area, but still a naturalist's dream.
As if an ecological wonder wasn't enough for you, the golf stands up well, also, writes McDonald. Solid conditioning combines with penalizing rough to make architect Steve Burns' creation come to life.
So with the golf solid and the nature mesmerizing, The Lakes ups the ante by keeping their green fees low, and keeping golfers from all around the north Florida and south Georgia areas coming back for more.
